Restaurant in Castiglione /arˈgaj/ satisfaction, pleasure

Argaj is the satisfaction you feel after enjoying a fine meal, and it is also our satisfaction when we see you leave the table well-fed and in a good mood.

Our restaurant is located in Castiglione Falletto, a small village with a great winemaking vocation, a panorama that is well worth the trip, and a rich and generous culinary tradition—that of the Langhe and Lower Piedmont.

Ascending the Montanello hill, on the road from Grinzane to Monforte, you will find us on the right side, right at the intersection that turns toward the center of Castiglione.

You can recognize us by the "Ristorante Argaj" sign and a brushstroke of red that forms a smiling mouth: our simple way of telling you that here you eat well and leave happy.

Our story

Cocktail bars, traditional kitchens, Michelin-starred restaurants: diverse experiences have taught us what it means to welcome, to cook, and to care for details. Argaj, as you experience and savor it today, is the arrival point of an evolutionary journey lasting twenty years, but it is not a final destination. Because in this profession, one never stops learning.

2010
La Locanda del Centro

After several years of employment, we felt the time had come to take a step forward: to become independent, take on real responsibilities, and test ourselves with the management of a venue.

In 2010, the right opportunity arrived: the chance to take over the management of Locanda del Centro in Castiglione, a restaurant with rooms and traditional cuisine. It was a choice for growth, but not a reckless one: it was not yet "our home" in the full sense, but the best way to learn on the job what it means to run a business.

2015
Argaj is born

After five years, the Locanda began to feel a bit cramped. The image of a restaurant with a traditional menu—vitello tonnato, tajarin, roast meat—no longer reflected what Andrea wanted to cook, while the dining room no longer coincided with Valentina's idea of hospitality, as she felt the need for greater freedom, including in the selection of wines.

We realized it was time once again to take a step forward and take on new responsibilities. We looked for a place that was truly ours, where we could better express ourselves professionally. The opportunity came again in Castiglione: some vacant premises belonging to a wine producer became the perfect base to build what we had in mind.

2025
Argaj is renewed

Ten years have passed since the opening, and we have come a long way. The menu has changed completely; we have learned and we have grown. We decided to give a new face to our home, one that reflects this new professional maturity.

Meet the crew

Kitchen, dining room, cellar: Argaj lives thanks to the people who work here every day. A small, close-knit, and passionate team is hidden behind every dish prepared and every glass served. These are the faces that bring our restaurant to life.

    Andrea Scarzello

I would like to help you (re)discover Piedmontese cuisine, starting from its traditions but leading you beyond its established borders to discover new culinary territories.

    Valentina Travaglio

Passionate about food, wine and people, I am the dining room manager: I take care of welcoming you, attending to you and ensuring that the time you spend here is truly enjoyable.

Astonishing menu with unexpected combinations of food , I am truly surprised it does not have a Michelin distinction having visited many bib gourmands and star restaurants. The atmosphere inside is nice and simple with the only drawback- parking lot just in front of. I wish they would plant some trees as the view behind is amazing.

A really high level of refined, inventive cooking and (for the quality of food served) also good value for money. Combined with informative and warm service from our waitress (Michella?) it was a superb dining experience, to be recommended. Thank you.

Outstanding quality food in the heart of the Wine Country Had excellent positive surprise in having such high quality meal. The menu was comprehensive and rich with variety of interesting Antipasti, first and second course. I had superb Duck, my colleagues had very fresh and tasty fish. As a starter we got nice Amuse Buosh. On top of all, Michella who served us was very efficient professional and polite. Finally, it was great Value for Money .

We had a fantastic dinner here on the last night of our holiday. Food was creative and delicious, beautifully prepared and presented; the service attentive but relaxed. We judged it the best meal of an excellent week in The area, and good value

My Italian is limited but it was close to Perfecto! Good service, good food. Only one point was dessert, the homemade tiramisu my favorite dessert let me down. Other then that I highly recommend this place.
